Tuesday January 11, 2000

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -- The Pennsylvania Crop Management Association (PCMA) will hold its sixteenth annual luncheon Jan. 24 at the Logan Grange Hall in Pleasant Gap, Centre County, from 9:30 a.m. until 2:30 p.m.

"Defining, Selecting, Managing and Marketing Genetically Modified Crops" is the topic of this year's luncheon.

Speakers include State Senator Roger Madigan; Robert Steele, dean of Penn State's College of Agricultural Sciences; Gary Micsky, Mercer County extension agent; Dave Huff, Penn State assistant professor of turfgrass and genetics; Bill Curran, Penn State associate professor of weed science; and Greg Roth, Penn State associate professor of agronomy.

The Pennsylvania Crop Management Association was established in 1984 to act as a representative body for local non-profit crop management associations (CMAs) in promoting sound cropping practices. Members pay acreage and membership fees in return for agronomic crop consulting services, which include soil sampling, weekly crop scouting, yield checks, field-specific computerized record keeping and assistance in developing nutrient and pest management strategies. Currently, eight local associations are affiliated with 34 Pennsylvania counties.

For more information or to register for the meeting, contact Jan Pruss, manager of Penn State's Crop Management Program, at 814-863-1020.
