UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -- James Adams of Mount Joy, Pa., is one of five recipients of 2001 Outstanding Alumni Awards from Penn State's College of Agricultural Sciences.

The award highlights distinguished graduates of the college and creates opportunities for interaction between alumni, students and faculty.

Adams is executive vice president and chief operating officer of Wenger's Feed Mills Inc. of Rheems, Pa. He previously served the company as operations manager, transportation manager, mill manager, manager of poultry service technicians and research and development manager.

Adams was a driving force behind the Pennsylvania Egg Quality Assurance Program for reduction of Salmonella enteriditis. He is past-president of the Maryland Feed Council and chairman of the PennAg Poultry Council. He also serves on the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture's Agricultural Research Advisory Committee and Poultry Health Advisory.

Adams is a member of the Poultry Science Association, the American Society of Animal Science, the World's Poultry Science Association (USA branch), the Council for Agricultural Science and Technology, the Mid-Atlantic Poultry Health Council and the American Society for Quality Control.

He received a bachelor's degree in poultry technology and management from Penn State in 1990, and a master's degree in business administration from the university in 1997.

In conjunction with receiving the award, Adams will travel to Penn State's University Park campus this fall to visit with students, faculty, staff and administrators.
