College Of Ag Sciences Taps Raphael As Commencement Speaker
UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -- Barbara Raphael, vice president of worldwide research and development for Adams Brands, a division of Pfizer Inc., will deliver the spring commencement address for Penn State's College of Agricultural Sciences, college officials announced.
The commencement ceremony is scheduled for 9 a.m. on May 11 in Eisenhower Auditorium at Penn State's University Park campus.
Raphael earned her bachelor's degree in science in 1966, her master's degree in foods and nutrition in 1969 and her doctorate in food science in 1972, all from Penn State. She distinguished herself as the first female to receive a graduate assistantship in the department of dairy science, which then housed the food science program.
As vice president of gum and confectionery research and development at Adams, which is part of Pfizer's Warner-Lambert Consumer Group, Raphael is responsible for six regional laboratories. She has helped to develop and launch such products as Dentyne Ice, Certs Power Mints, Trident White, Cool Whip Extra Creamy, Budget Gourmet entrees and many others.
Raphael received the General Foods President's Award, chaired the General Foods Institute of Technology and initiated a women's network at Warner-Lambert that is now supported by the corporation.
She has served on the board of directors of Penn State's College of Health and Human Development Alumni Society and helped organize the Penn State Professional Women's Networks in New York and New Jersey.
