Penn State Block and Bridle Club Wins National Awards
UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -- The Penn State Chapter of the National Block & Bridle Club received a number of awards at the 84th annual National Block & Bridle Convention in late February in San Antonio, Texas.
Jenn Flinchbaugh finished first in the Outstanding Senior competition, receiving a plaque and $500 award. An animal sciences major from York, Pa., she graduated in May 2003 and is currently pursuing a graduate degree at Dickinson School of Law.
Penn State placed first in the Published Chapter Yearbook category with the 2002-2003 yearbook entitled "Exploring New Horizons." Tiffany Rhodes was the yearbook editor; assistant editor was Marc Sholder.
Burke Neely, an animal sciences major from Loysville, Pa., placed third in the Junior Scholarship competition, receiving a plaque and $300 award. Burke will graduate in May and is the current president of the Penn State Block & Bridle chapter.
Penn State also finished third in the Chapter Scrapbook competition. The 2002-03 Scrapbook Chair was Briana Shealer; vice-chair was Katie Hetherington.
Penn State placed fifth in the Chapter Web Site category with a site that was evaluated in June/July 2003. Club Webmaster in 2002-03 was Luke Zerby.
Penn State was represented at the National Convention by 36 club members. Club advisors Erskine Cash and Karen Vines accompanied the group, as did outgoing National Block & Bridle Club President Harold Harpster.
