A new book co-authored by a Penn State forest expert can help you rebuild your backyard environment. "The Woods in Your Backyard: Learning to Create and Enhance Natural Areas Around Your Home" is a 138-page combined book and workbook written specifically for people who live on one to 10 acres of land that is forested or that has natural unmowed areas, and for those who want to turn a mowed area into a natural one. "Since assistance from public forest managers is not available in most states to people in this situation, our book will be an especially important resource," says Jim Finley, professor of forest resources and state extension forester.

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -- Penn State's Pasto Agricultural Museum has for 27 years aimed to help the public understand and appreciate the way farming life used to be. However, the museum's contents have outgrown its space, according to museum curator Darwin G. Braund. Currently, only about 35 percent of its collection can be displayed at any given time.

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -- William Kleiner, extension director in Adams County, has been appointed director of Penn State Cooperative Extension's Southeast Region, effective Jan. 2, 2007. As regional director, Kleiner will provide administrative and programmatic leadership for cooperative extension in the region's nine counties: Berks, Bucks, Chester, Delaware, Lehigh, Montgomery, Northampton, Philadelphia and Schuylkill.

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -- A Penn State team led by Glen Cauffman, manager of farms and facilities in the College of Agricultural Sciences, was recently honored by PennFuture at a Philadelphia luncheon for converting the college's farm equipment to biodiesel fuel -- made from soybean oil.
