To help strengthen the state’s $360 million-per-year beef industry, the college worked with the Pennsylvania Beef Council to develop the “Blueprint for Success for Feeding Cattle in Pennsylvania,” available on the Web at www.das.psu.edu/Beef/BlueprintForSuccess.pdf. The practices outlined in the blueprint help reduce the cost of production, increase the value of beef to consumers, and reduce carcass discounts affecting meat quality. Another site, beefcalendar.cas.psu.edu, can help producers with scheduling routine herd management activities, guidance in keeping thorough records, timely business tips, and information about beef-related events.
