Area Teens Excel In Farm Safety Quiz Bowl

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -- Area teens demonstrated that safety is an important part of rural work and life by participating in the recent Farm Safety and Health Quiz Bowl at Penn State's Ag Progress Days.

Eleven 4-H and FFA (Future Farmers of America) teams competed in the semi-final round at the Rock Springs event in August. The contest was coordinated by Penn State Cooperative Extension and sponsored by Old Guard Insurance, New Holland North America, Inc. and 1st Choice Auto/Everett Cash Mutual Insurance.

The following FFA chapter teams won their semi-final contest and will advance to the state finals at the 2001 Pennsylvania Farm Show in January: Berlin Brothersvalley FFA, Garden Spot FFA, Upper Dauphin Area FFA and West Snyder FFA.

The following 4-H teams participated in the semi-final contest and will advance to the state finals at the 2001 Pennsylvania Farm Show in January: Cumberland County 4-H, Potter County 4-H and Westmoreland County 4-H.

Team members are:

Berlin Brothersvalley FFA -- Joe Knotts, Blake Weigh, Becky Hittic and Luke Horning.

Garden Spot FFA -- Brian Oberhottzer, Josh Reist, Wes Nolt and Courtney Miller.

Upper Dauphin Area FFA -- Joshua Bush, Kevin Neiswender, Tommy Herb and Kyle Romberger.

West Snyder FFA -- Hanna Etzler, Victoria Adams, Phaedva Wray, Tiffany Esbenshade and Jenna Briggs.

Cumberland County 4-H -- Tim Blasco, Michael Woods, Gwen Thomas, Susan Thomas and Michelle Thomas.

Potter County 4-H -- Billy Morgart, Becky Dailey and John Dailey.

Westmoreland County 4-H -- Rachel Ebert, April Hawkey, Mary Ann Ciesielski and Lisa Ciesielski.
