Redding Named Extension Director In Adams County
UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -- Penn State Cooperative Extension has named Nina Redding of Aspers as county extension director in Adams County, effective March 1. She replaces William Kleiner, who recently became director of extension's nine-county Southeast Region.
Since 2003, Redding has been extension director in Cumberland County, where she oversees a staff of 12, including educators, program assistants and administrative personnel.
From 1988 to 2003, Redding served as a family living extension educator based in Adams County. She was responsible for planning, implementing and evaluating nonformal educational programs in the areas of life skills, food safety, foods and nutrition, early childhood education for childcare providers, family resource management and staff development.
"As a resident and former long-time extension educator in Adams County, Nina brings to this position a comprehensive knowledge of the county's communities, businesses and citizens," says Michelle Rodgers, director of Penn State Cooperative Extension's Capital Region. "Her understanding of local needs and issues uniquely qualifies her to lead extension's educational programming in support of the county's agricultural community, natural resources, families and youth."
Redding received a bachelor's degree in home economics education from Indiana University of Pennsylvania in 1982 and a master's degree in training and development from Penn State Harrisburg in 2000. She is a member of the Pennsylvania Extension Association of Family and Consumer Sciences, the National Extension Association of Family and Consumer Sciences, the Pennsylvania Farm Bureau, Adams Electric Cooperative Inc., and the YWCA of Gettysburg and Adams County.
She is an active member of Trinity United Church of Christ in Gettysburg, where she serves as an elementary-level Sunday-school teacher and chair of the Outreach Committee. She is treasurer of the Bendersville Parent Teacher Association, a leader for the Upper Adams 4-H Club and a credentialed director for Adams Electric Cooperative Inc.
Penn State Cooperative Extension is a nonformal, community-based educational resource, funded cooperatively by state and county governments and the U.S. Department of Agriculture. Each year, more than 2 million people participate in Penn State Cooperative Extension programs in agriculture; natural resources and environmental management; 4-H/youth development; community resources and economic development; family development and resource management; leadership and volunteer development; and nutrition, diet and health.
